A Note About Using 'Gates'
Tracks with unwanted sounds are not always gated. Sometimes the leakage that is present actually adds something to a sound. Also, there are uses for Gates that have nothing to do with suppressing unwanted sound on tracks. The point is that while you are learning how to use Gates, do not think that every audio engineer employs them in the same way at all times. Solo a track as needed so you can hear if the Gate is doing what you want on a given track. Don't try to use Gates for drum's overheads. But don't take my word for it, go ahead and try gating the overheads just to hear why you generally don't gate them.
