Continuous (Analog)

- Infinite resolution; smooth

Discrete (Digital)

- Digital Sample at discrete resolution

*Quantization/Resolution

- Quantize: to subdivide into small but measurable increments

- Breaking up an analog signal into digital ‘steps’

*Zero crossing

- Always make cuts/edits where amplitude = 0

*Base 10: Decimal numbers

ex) 6560: (6 x 10^3) + (5 x 10^2) + (6 x 10^1) + (0 x 10^0)

*Base 2: Binary number (computers)

ex) 1011: (1 x 2^3) + (0 x 2^2) + (1 x 2^1) + (1 x 2^0) = 8 + 0 + 2 + 1 = 11
