- Byte (= 8 bits)

- Kilo Byte = 1024 (2^10) Byte

- Mega Byte = 1024 KB (Kilo Byte)

- Giga Byte = 1024 MB

- Tera Byte = 1024 GB

 

 

 

 

(Sample Rate (Hz)) x (Number of Channels (Ch)) x (Bits (bit)) x (sec (t)) ÷ 8 (make Byte)

= Answer (Byte) ÷ 1024 = KB

÷ 1024 = MB

÷ 1024 = GB

 

ex) If 2 channels: 

- 1 min., 24 bits, 44k

: (44,000) x (2) x (24) x (60) = 15.1 MB

- 1 min., 16 bits, 96k

: (96,000) x (2) x (16) x (60) = 21.97 MB

 

 

 

 

[side trip] 

 

(Parallel) ATA or IDE - speed: 100/133 MB per second; information is sent in ‘Chunks’

 

Serial ATA (SATA) - speed is 150 MB/sec; information is sent in ‘bit by bit’

 

SCSI - speed 320 MB/sec

 

External FireWire, USB: Enclosure hold ATA or SATAs; FW 400 mb (mega bits) ÷ 8 = byte, FW 800 mb (mega bits) ÷ 8 = byte

 

USB 1.0 is 40 times slower than USB 2.0
