*2^Y = Amount of Steps:

2^16 = 65,536 (16 bit)

2^8 = 256 (8 bit)

2^4 = 16 (4 bit)

2^20 = 1,048,576 (20 bit)

2^24 = 16,777,216 (24 bit)

Paper stack

16 bit => 22 ft

20 bit => 352 ft

24 bit => 5,632 ft

*Dynamic Range:

Difference between quietest and loudest sound in a system

*Number of bits x 6 = Dynamic Range (in dB)

e.g. 16 bit x 6 = 96 dB

       20 bit x 6 = 120 dB

       24 bit x 6 =144 dB

*Human ear => can hear up to 120 dB

*When classical music is recorded, studio setup needs very high sample rate to catch all aspects of sounds (ambience, delicacy, etc.)

*Bits = Amplitude (Resolution)
